Our Mission

Primary Source educates global citizens by working with teachers to foster students’ knowledge, skills, and dispositions for thoughtful and engaged citizenship. With our guidance and resources, teachers cultivate students’ civic-mindedness, cultural awareness, and global competence, preparing them for our increasingly diverse and interconnected world.

Why?

We believe in the power of understanding the world from diverse perspectives and a future in which all individuals have the skills, knowledge, and empathy to engage with their local and global peers and help solve today’s pressing challenges.

Teachers are the key.

Our visionary founders realized that educators are vital to shaping the way children see the world and to understanding their roles as thoughtful and engaged citizens— that to make world and U.S. histories and cultures accessible and exciting to students, they needed to inspire and empower educators. We continue this important work every day by providing high-quality, dynamic learning opportunities for K-12 teachers that give them the space to learn and collaborate with their peers and subject experts.

How do we do it?

We collaborate with teachers, schools, and educational organizations to offer professional development programs and resources that help make global, civics, and cultural education an integral part of every student’s classroom experience. Our engaging face-to-face and online programs, curriculum resources, and international study tours enhance global understanding, civic engagement, and cultural understanding, and help thousands of teachers every year bring the wider world to their students.
