Grade 5 provides a study of North American history from the precolonial and colonial period through the Civil War and Reconstruction, followed by a study of the 20th-century movements for civil rights for all. This content unfolds through four distinct curriculum units: Early Colonization and Growth of Colonies, The American Revolution and Principles of United States Government, The Growth of the Republic Slavery, The Legacy of the Civil War and the Struggle for Civil Rights for All.
