Teaching genocide is to teach a reckoning with the ultimate crime against humanity. Educators grapple with finding developmentally appropriate ways to approach unimaginable cruelty. Despite the challenges, teaching these histories presents a unique opportunity for students living in an interconnected world where mantras like “never again” and “not on our watch” perennially fall short. Effective genocide education allows for the study of human rights, (inter)national memory, civic responsibility, and the many forms justice can take.

Join us for this one-day interdisciplinary seminar as we use art, poetry, and survivor testimony to explore teaching and learning about genocide with bravery and authenticity.
