Culture from your couch: Protest Nation | ||||||
In response to the current pandemic and physical distancing requirements, we are launching a new email series called “Culture from your couch.” Whether you are a teacher putting together lesson plans, or a lifelong learner interested in global citizenship and the interconnections of our world, there is something here for you! Our first episode of “Culture from your couch” is the recording of last week’s Opening Minds. Inspiring Change. presentation by Professor Tim McCarthy, who spoke about “Protest Nation: What the American Radical Tradition Can Teach Us About Courageous Citizenship.“ Professor McCarthy reminded us that courageous citizenship is fundamental to American traditions, and he noted movements and heroes, once considered radical, from the struggles for African American, women’s, and LGBTQ+ rights. He urged the study of history and primary sources for inspiration to speak truth to power. Here is a recent love letter that he wrote to his students in light of the pandemic. With over a decade of expertise in online learning, we are proud of our collection of proven and productive digital programs and resources.
